I arrived home, ravenous and having to rush to the bathroom, as usual. I don't know why but it seems like anytime I need to use the bathroom, I have a contraction. I don't know if having a contraction makes me feel like I need to go potty or if going potty gives me a contraction.
Anyway, after I stood up, rush started. My tummy became as hard as a rock and it was mildly uncomfortable, but I've been having these light waves all day...about every 50 minutes or so. Nothing to really notice, even. This one sure did come on strong though. I breathed through it and all was well. A little lying on the floor, petting my cat, and no big deal. Just practice!
Well, there on the floor, I got the great idea to measure my stomach. I am at 38 weeks and 2 days. The last measurement I took of myself and wrote down was April 21st, 2009. This was just over a year ago and right before I ran my first half-marathon, so I was in pretty good shape. My waist was 30 inches on that date. Today, my waist is a glorious, beautiful and healthy 44 inches! 14 inches in a year and it will probably grow more!
Why this huge tummy makes me feel giddy, I couldn't say. Except maybe that I am thrilled that I will be meeting my little boy in just days.
When we first found out we were having a boy, unmistakeably a boy, we were both surprised. We were definitely not disappointed, but I think that the idea of having a girl was easier for me to identify with. Now, I cannot imagine having anything but a boy. Blue jeans, faded overalls, tee-shirts, sweatshirts, big appetites, mischievousness, dirt, loving his mama, emulating his daddy. I just can't wait to meet him. I hope the ultrasound is correct...if not, I'm sure a baby girl will look great in blue. :)
My husband has gone back to archaeology, which means weekends and holidays off! Unfortunately it also means weekdays away from home. He will be gone steadily Monday through Friday. This makes for restful sleep because I get all the pillows and the whole bed. But that's the only upside. He's about four hours away and nervous about making it back home in time when labor starts. I have faith though. It will work out.
I haven't blogged much lately because the third trimester is much more difficult than I imagined it would be, but it is much more fun, too. I love it. I love watching his little butt move from one side to another and feeling a little hand reach out. I love the baby hiccups. I love washing and folding his clothes. I am actually looking forward to his delivery, both the good and bad.
Let's pray that he doesn't come too late.
So excited for you guys!
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure where this blog post was going with the title and the first sentence... :)
I'm sure you have a lot of friends around, but if you need anything, give us a call!
And if that ultrasound is wrong...I have some clothes you can borrow. :)
Hi Andy, thanks! I am so glad to know you and Tim and I will probably ask you guys for help--especially if you are running to Winco or something :) And of course I'll want you to come hold the baby sometime!
